Tinsel, Turkey, Elf and Safety – Christmas Health and Safety Tips
Don’t let ‘elf and safety’ spoil your Christmas – Follow Michelle’s 12 Days of Christmas health and safety tips for a healthy and safe Christmas
- Smoke Alarms – check that they work, they save lives
- Doors – close them all before you go to bed (stops the spread of fire)
- Ladders – Check they are in good repair
- Lofts – Beware of low beams, wires and nails in the loft when getting down the decorations (especially if you’ve got no hair on your head to cushion the impact!!)
- Indoor and Outdoor Lights – Should be CE marked and in good condition before you plug them in. Turn them all off before bed!
- Candles – Keep them away from curtains, children and fabrics. Don’t forget to blow them out when you leave the house / go to bed.
- Christmas Trees – Site them away from radiators and fireplaces
- Fire Blanket / Extinguisher – Have either handy and know what to do with them in the event of a fire.
- Sockets – don’t overload sockets and extension leads
- The Turkey – don’t rinse a raw turkey. Do wash your hands, utensils and surfaces after handling a raw turkey and make sure it’s cooked through before serving.
- Christmas spirit – don’t get distracted from the cooking & let your potatoes boil dry
- Travelling – don’t drink ad drive. Watch out for the sherry trifle & brandy butter!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy and safe Christmas.
Best wishes for the New Year
