Feedback is always welcome, especially when it’s positive. Even if it’s not always positive, lessons can and should be learned.
“I found the course totally enjoyable and the trainer conveyed the information in a very enjoyable and interesting way”. – Food safety award level 2 trainee 30/10/13
When training staff, it’s almost impossible to predict at the start of the session how the day will end for both the trainer and the trainees. What I aim for, is that I will quickly engage and identify with the group and be able to meet their needs from a learning and interest point of view.
For the trainee, they want to know that their precious time away from their job is going to be interesting informative and stimulating. I believe that the first five minutes of any session is key to setting the tone for the rest of the session. For me that means being prepared, ready and organised before anyone even arrives. Then I’m relaxed and ready to welcome and inspire my trainees to want to learn, participate and feedback on their experience.
One of the reasons why my ‘training works every day’, even after I have left the building, is that I make learning and training fun, friendly, inclusive and interactive.
One of the most successful things that I do is to move people around the training room, working in different groups throughout the day. This is a positive experience for most people, in that, they meet new people and share work experiences, and that’s a bonus that they don’t anticipate and adds to the learning experience for them.
More feedback is always welcome, negative and positive. 😀
I am proud to share the following feedback from Steve Hudson at Hughes Safety Showers.
Michelle has just completed a Health and Safety training program for all our staff here at Hughes Safety Showers. I am very pleased to say that the whole program was a complete success. I recieved very positive feedback from all the staff in regards to Michelle’s engaging training style in what can be a difficult subject.Michelle’s training has significantly raised the knowledge, competance and most importantly the profile of health and safety within the business. All the staff now have a health and safety qualification which also covers all our legislitive requirements.
Michelle is now so ingrained into the culture at Hughes that it is not uncommon to hear the words “What would Michelle say?” when health and safety matters arise. I would endorse and recommend Michelle’s training to any organisation big or small.
Chris Hicks says
Feedback is MOST useful when it is negative — pointing out things the customer didn’t like or thinks could be improved. So it should be: “Feedback is always welcome, particularly if it is negative” 🙂

You’re absolutely right Chris and I include the following questions on my feedback forms…
What did you like most about the training?
What did you like least about the training?
How could the training have been better for you?
If the course is more than one day or session, I will make sure that the learners know that I have read the feedback and adjusted my training to try to meet their needs. This demonstrates that I am committed to their learning and want to make it the best training experience that they’ve had. And i’m happy to say that for most this is the case.

Michelle has had two sessions with my staff for COSHH and Materials Handling Training. She made a boring session interesting. Michelle is very pleasant and easy to get on with, I found her a very professional person.
Michelle Hay says
Thank you Bill, you have a great team there and they were a pleasure to train. I’ll follow up to see how they’re getting on with the new skills that they learnt.

Hi Michelle,
Sorry I have not been in touch. It has been manic here with inductions and training.
Here is my testimonial.
Michelle has a very unique approach to training. She makes the difficult areas easier to remember with great teaching techniques and resources. If you don’t feel confident she will not leave you to feel that way for long, she ensures that she goes over everything you feel your lacking in before you take your assessment. A great learning experience!
