Fire Safety Awareness

Fire safety awareness training is essential for the safety of your staff and business. It shows both a legal and moral duty of care.

‘Duty holders’ who are responsible for workplaces and other buildings with public access must adopt and ensure the right behaviours and procedures. Read more at Workplace Fire Safety.

All employees must receive fire safety awareness training. This should be when they start work during initial induction and then more thorough training and regular refresher training throughout their employment. You may also need to appoint and train Fire Marshals to support you fire safety procedures.

Training people in fire safety awareness supports the the fire risk assessment. The training becomes part of the controls in place to avoid fires and mitigate against injury to people through the effects of fire and smoke etc. In other words, people act quickly to raise the alarm and evacuate.

People are more likely to respond promptly and effectively if they:

  • are trained and competent
  • take part in regular and realistic practice
  • have clearly agreed, recorded and rehearsed plans, actions and responsibilities
