What it reminds us is that risk assessments are key to employee safety. More importantly, what we do with the findings from them. A safe system of work should be in place for all work activities and tasks.
Safe systems of work give employees clear and concise guidelines on how to carry out their work safely. They should state what the task/activity is, what the risks and hazards are and how to do it safely. These can only follow a risk assessment that must be in place for all your staff’s activities and tasks.
The latest figures show 20 people were killed while working in the manufacturing industry in Great Britain in 2012/13. Information on improving safety is available at hse.gov.uk/manufacturing
