Most jobs involve some form of manual handling of objects. Small or large, light or heavy, things need to be moved from one place to another. When staff are absent following an injury at work, it could mean finding cover for duties, reporting to the HSE, filling out forms, and many more time consuming activities. Providing specific training will help to reduce the risks of your staff being injured at work.
‘Manual handling of objects causes 26% of all workplace injuries. These include work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as pain and injuries to arms, legs and joints, and repetitive strain injuries of various sorts.
The term manual handling covers a wide variety of activities including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying. If any of these tasks are not carried out appropriately there is a risk of injury’. Find out more at hse.gov.uk
